GUESTBOOK

We have a patch of trees (among many patches) along our road that stretches about a quarter mile. Long ago someone nailed a piece of 2 by 4 on eight of the trees closest to the road, with a single word painted on each board. I've seen this strange country art before, so I know that the original message read WE...BORROW...THIS...WORLD...FROM...OUR...CHILDREN...!

Time and possibly a pedophile have eroded away some of the boards, revealing the sinister nature of our little town, population 112. Now the anonymous tree huggers message reads simply WE...BORROW........CHILDREN...!

Bits of fire in the sky push me east back home. I used to live in flames but it's hard on the wings. Choke me. Smoke me. Scare me back. You try but you just can't. I peel the layers in my spare time, and you're easy to see through. I can fly, I've discovered on my own. I may be the lesser butterfly but my wings are just as strong. Who are you to tell me to find a place to land? I may be the lesser butterfly but baby watch me glide.
